The novel coronavirus has reached pandemic status throughout the world. With that news, comes the numerous cancellations/suspensions that are now taking place, out of an abundance of caution. Several of these cancellations affect parents/athletes who are playing in State Tournaments, if the tournaments have not been cancelled.

In the Special Olympic World, here in Minnesota, the seasons are just getting underway for swimming, basketball, and track and field is scheduled to start very soon. It's an exciting time, beginning of the season for the athletes, coaches, and unified partners. Unfortunately, it's going to be a slow start, at this time. I saw the following on the Special Olympics of Minnesota's Facebook Page:

This is unfortunate, but, as disappointing as it is for everyone to delay their seasons, this is being done in the interest of keeping everyone healthy. Minnesota Special Olympics will be keeping a close eye on the situation and will update their website and Social Media pages as necessary about any upcoming events.

As a coach for Special Olympics, I am just as bummed out as the athletes. I look forward to each season, and truly enjoy watching the athletes practice to get ready for Area and State Games. We are all hoping that we can get the season going, for all of the sports offered, even if it's delayed.
