St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota's COVID-19 vaccination program is picking up steam as COVID-related hospitalizations continue to decline.

The State Health Department today reported the number of Minnesotans who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is nearing 150,000. Just last Friday, the health department reported that number had reached 100,000.

Their overall number of people hospitalized in Minnesota due to COVID-19 has dropped below 700 for the first time since late October. There are currently 686 Minnesotans hospitalized with the coronavirus infection and 141 of them are in intensive care. The ICU usage total is the lowest it has been since October 24th.

The Minnesota Department of Health today reported only 4 coronavirus-related deaths statewide. It was the lowest daily death toll since October 26. Only 980 new COVID-19 infections were reported throughout the state, including 10 new cases in Olmsted County. The testing total was just under 15,000 and the daily testing positivity rate was about 6.5 percent.
