Undated (KROC AM News) - Cities between St Paul and Winona are still facing flooding problems from the Mississippi River but there may be a break next week.

Recent snowmelt has pushed river levels into flood stage and crests have not yet occurred. The latest information from the National Weather Service indicates the river may begin cresting Tuesday between Red Wing and Wabasha.

The crest in Red Wing is now projected to be around 16.5 feet, which would be the 7th highest on record. That is also in the major flood stage range. The crest in Wabasha is expected to be 15.9 feet, just one inch below major flood stage.

Although levels are expected to slowly fall next week, the river will likely remain at flood stage for several days. And, another rise is possible because the Minnesota River has yet to crest.

It appears that river may not crest until after April 8th. This means there may be another surge in the Mississippi from the Twin Cities to Winona.

The lack of moisture the last two weeks in southeast Minnesota has eased the threat of flooding. Although there is a good chance for rain Wednesday, amounts are not expected to be significant.
