On June 7th, 2013, 17-year-old Rudy Hummel began sleeping in his backyard in Hermantown. Despite the winter and family trips out of town, Hummel has stuck to his goal to sleep outside for a year.

Now Hummel plans to raise money for two charities with his "Snore Outdoors" quest. They are Habitat for Humanity, which provides housing for those in need, and Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory in Duluth, which educates thousands of adults and children every year about migratory birds.

Supporters can make donations to the two organizations through Hummel's website.
