More Than 1-Million Sign Petition for Reoccurring Stimulus Checks
Stepanie Bonin owns a restaurant in Denver with her husband and like all other small business owners the two are struggling. She says the pandemic has been, "catastrophic for working families like mine" and is calling on the government to take immediate action.
Bonin started a change.org petition, which has been signed by over one-million people, and asks congress to support working families with reoccurring stimulus checks: "I’m calling on Congress to support families with a $2,000 payment for adults and a $1,000 payment for kids immediately, and continuing regular checks for the duration of the crisis."
You can view the petition and read Bonin's full statement here. She says, "We need immediate checks and recurring payments so that we can keep our heads above water. Congress needs to make sure that we won’t be left financially ruined for doing our part to keep the country healthy.
According to Newsweek, there are Senators pushing legislation that would provide the exact type of monthly payment that Bonin is requesting to people that earn less than $120,000 a year. Whether or not a second round or reoccurring stimulus checks gets approved remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, many still haven't received their first stimulus check. If you are still waiting you can check the payment status here.
