National Nachos Day! November 6th!

Burr!  It is getting chilly outside, warm up tonight with some comfort food!

Enjoy a big stack of warm tortilla chips, smothered with shredded cheese, salsa and a variety of toppings.  Maybe a snack or your evening meal!

Popular toppings usually include: Refried beans, ground beef, shredded beef, chicken, seafood, jalapeño peppers, green pepper, lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, onion, guacamole, and sour cream!

According to (nationaldaycalendar.com) nachos were first created around 1943, originating from Mexico.  It is believed that Ignaci “Nacho” Anaya created the original nachos in the city of Piedras Negras,Coahuila,Mexico, just across the border from Eagles Pass,Texas.

After a very long day of shopping for a group of wives ofUnited Statessoldiers, they stumbled upon a restaurant in Eagle Pass,Texas that had already closed for the day, but Maitre d, Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya agreed to serve them from whatever he could find available.

Ahh, nachos were created.  Scraps of tortillas were cut into triangles, topped with cheddar cheese and quickly heated.  Then, jalapenos were added, enjoy!

The word spread quickly throughout Texas, the Southwest, and all across America!  The original recipe is printed in the 1954 St. Anne’s Cookbook.

If you would like to indulge in a plate of Nachos with an abundance of toppings, you should order the “loaded nachos” or “super nachos”.

Are you getting hungry yet, I know what I am having for dinner or a late night snack!

What is your favorite place to enjoy a heaping plate of nachos?

One of my favorites is Newts, in Rochester,MN.   But, there are so many!  So, if you dare, indulge in a stack of nachos today!
