By now, we've all heard about recommendations to limit those family gatherings this year to try to limit the spread of COVID-19 and now there's a new app that can still help you keep in touch.

Seeing as we've been enveloped by the coronavirus pandemic for nearly 9 months already, many of us have had the experience of attending some sort of virtual meeting, event, or gathering-- not to mention having had the wonderful experience (so I'm told) of keeping tabs on distance learning if you have kids too.

If you're like me, you've probably used Zoom or Microsoft Teams for your virtual get-togethers. Even some personal virtual happy hours I was a part of earlier this year were set-up by someone using their professional Zoom or Teams account. But what program would you use for strictly family events that might be virtual this year?

Seeing as you probably don't want to use your work account for personal activities like these, there's now a new, face-to-face social network app, called Houseparty, that says it will allow you to set up an online event or party here in Minnesota-- without having to use your work app or program.

Houseparty explains the way it works like this: 'Houseparty is a social networking app that allows up to eight people to video chat at once in a “room.” Users can have infinite rooms and easily float between rooms. Users receive a notification when friends open the app and can join chats with friends (and friends of friends).'

Houseparty says it's available on iOSAndroidMacPC, and as a Google Chrome extension, if you want to use your home computer and not your phone. If I'm being truthful, I'm not a huge fan of all these virtual events, but this year, that's just the way things have to be. And this might be a good way for your friends and family members to stay connected!

And, if you're going to be either staying home or are going to be a part of a much smaller Thanksgiving celebration this year, keep scrolling to check out some recipes you can make at your house that are JUST like the ones we love to order from our favorite fast-food restaurants!
