New Details About WSU Student’s Death

FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say a college student who was found dead in a Wisconsin restaurant dumbwaiter had become tangled in the machine.

Fountain City Police Officer Jason Mork says 21-year-old Brooke Baures was found "trapped inside the entirety of the device."

The Winona Daily News reports that an employee of WingDam Saloon and Grill called 911 Monday night to say she was afraid a co-worker had been caught in the machinery. The employee was too scared to look, but another worker confirmed Baures was in there.

The dumbwaiter was used to shuttle drinks and food to the restaurant's second floor.

Baures was a standout gymnast at nearby Winona State University in Minnesota.

The university planned a candlelight vigil Wednesday night.
