Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The thunderstorms that rumbled across southern Minnesota Tuesday morning produced a record rainfall in Rochester.

The National Weather Service says 1.67 inches of rain was recorded at the Rochester Airport, which topped the previous daily record rainfall for July 28th that was set in 1942 at 1.21 inches. Nearly all of Tuesday’s rainfall, around 1.6 inches, fell over a period of about an hour.

The highest rainfall reading in this region was just under 1.9 inches in Kasson, while almost 3 inches of rain was reported in northeastern Iowa.
