When I was a kid, one of my favorite toys was the simple Green Army Men.  Not only were the plastic soldiers featured in the “Toy Story” movies, but now they will take their rightful place in the National Toy Hall of Fame in Rochester, New York.  (Yes, there is such a place).

The Toy Hall of Fame announced their new inductees today.  Also voted in today were Bubbles and the Rubik’s Cube.  They beat out other finalists which didn’t quite make the cut, including: American Girl Dolls, My Little Pony, Fisher-Price Little People and the Slip-N-Slide.

Kids have played with Bubbles since the 17th century.  Green Army Men have been around since the time of World War II.  And the Rubik’s Cube became popular in the early 1980s.

A group of 24 toy experts, including collectors and designers, make up the national selection committee.
