Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -  The Olmsted County Board has approved an extension of the deadline for paying first half property taxes.

The extension was recommended as a way to provide some assistance to home and business owners facing economic challenges as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Today's action by the commissioners pushed the deadline for the first half property tax payments from May 15 until July 15th. That means there will be no penalty is assessed unless the property owner fails to meet the July deadline.

The deadline extension only applies to property located in Olmsted County and does not apply to property taxes paid by escrow. In approving the extension, the elected officials also noted that property owners who are not facing financial hardship due to the pandemic are being encouraged to make their tax payment by the original May 15th deadline.
