Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The number of new COVID-19 cases detected in Olmsted County has now been declining for seven straight weeks.

Olmsted County Public Health says 109 new infections were detected last week, which was the lowest weekly total reported since the first week in September last year. The daily average for the number of new cases in Olmsted County has dropped to 16.

The latest statistics reported by the Minnesota Department of Health show 28 new COVID-19 cases were detected in Olmsted County yesterday and the statewide total was 788 with 17 additional coronavirus-related deaths in Minnesota. That was the highest single-day death toll since February 12 when the deaths of 19 people were reported. The daily testing positivity rate was about 4.5 percent.

About 20,000 additional Minnesotans were vaccinated against the new virus yesterday. Almost 929,000 have now received at least one dose and almost 485,000 have been administered both shots of the vaccine. Locally, the number of people in Olmsted County who have had at least one dose is nearing 45,000, while just over 31,500 are fully vaccinated.
