Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Olmsted County health officials are reporting a drop in the number of positive COVID-19 cases during the past week but they remain at a high level.

Numbers through Oct. 7th show the county’s weekly total was 165, down from the record high of 212 reported the previous week. The 165 total is the third-highest since the pandemic began. The second highest weekly total is 169 reported on July 7th.

Olmsted County Public Health Services says along with increasing evidence of higher transmission, there has been a growing number of patients who don’t know where or how they contracted the virus. Officials say this indicates more wide-spread community transmission.

So far, Olmsted County has reported nearly 2800 positive cases. The county reported 25 new ones Thursday and says there are currently 176 active cases.
