Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  A recent crackdown on seatbelt law violators resulted in over 13,000 speeding tickets.

Several hundred local law enforcement agencies and the Minnesota State Patrol participated in the “Click it or Ticket” campaign from July 8th through the 22nd. 1534 citations were issued for seat belt violations while 13,214 motorists were ticketed for speeding. Both numbers were down from a similar enforcement campaign conducted last July, when over 16,000 speeding tickets and over 2100 seat belt citations were issued.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department reported that its deputies issued 225 speeding tickets and four citations for seatbelt violations. One of the speeders tagged in Olmsted County was caught going 109 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone. That was among the highest speeds recorded by law officers throughout Minnesota, but the highest was 120 miles per hour in Rosemount.

Rochester Police Officers participating in this year’s crackdown handed out just one ticket for a seatbelt law violation, while 55 motorists were ticketed for speeding.
