(KROC-AM News) - One man was killed and a woman was injured after a motorcycle struck a deer in Wabasha County Monday night.

The Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of the crash around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Wabasha County Road 17 and 335th Ave.

Deputies arrived and immediately started life-saving efforts on the driver of the motorcycle, who was identified as 51-year-old Daran Atkinson of Lake City. The efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger of the motorcycle was identified as Lori Schueller of Lake City. She was transported to a hospital in Rochester with non-life threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office said this was the fifth fatal crash of the year in Wabasha County, and the second fatal crash involving a deer.
