Voters in the Pine Island School District have approved plans for a new school building and other improvements.

About 65-percent of the voters selected "yes" on the ballot question seeking authorization to build a new Kindergarten through 4th School on the south end of the Goodhue County community for about $33-million dollars.

The Pine Island School District voters also approved a second proposal involving the construction of a new auditorium and athletic facilities.  About 62-percent voted "yes" on that question. Those projects carry a price tag of about $6.5-million dollars.

The school district's website indicates the new school is expected to be ready for students in 2016.
