It was only available here in Rochester, and like the old saying goes, it was apparently too good to be true.

I'm talking about the gas-coupon program at the Rochester Costco. The popular program would give you .25 cents off per gallon of gasoline purchased when you presented your gas receipt when checking out inside at the main store.

But, take the 'L' out of 'loverboy,' and it's over, boy. Signs on the gas pumps went up last weekend that said that program will officially end on September 2nd-- Labor Day-- at the Rochester Costco, off West Circle Drive. The sign did note that you can still turn in any gas coupons through December 1st of this year.

I don't know about you, but my wife and I used that program A  LOT! We only live a few miles away, so we became members when it first opened and pretty much only fill up our cars there.

So when Costco introduced that gas-coupon program a year or two ago, we thought it was great! We'd routinely get $3 or $4 dollars off (depending on how many times we filled one of our vehicles up), which, over the course of the year, pretty much paid for our yearly membership.

And, it was always interesting to me to note that this gas-coupon program was ONLY in place at the Costco in Rochester. A few times we filled up at a Costco in the Twin Cities, but, nope, no gas program. Actually, now that I think of it, I'm kind of surprised the program ran as long as it did.

Well, as they say, it was good while it lasted, wasn't it?
