Possible Sign of Slight Easing in Rochester’s Tight Labor Market
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The latest jobs data from the state suggests the local labor market might be slightly less tight this summer.
Statistics compiled by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development put the unemployment rate in the Rochester area at 2.4-percent in May. While the jobless rate for Olmsted County was down two-tenths of a point from April, it was a half-percentage point above the rate reported for the same month a year ago.
Across the region, Houston and Fillmore Counties match Olmsted County at 2.4-percent for the lowest unemployment rate in southeastern Minnesota, where the rates dropped in every county last month. The highest jobless rate in the region was found in Winona and Freeborn Counties at 2.8-percent, while the largest month-to-month drop was reported in Dodge County where the rate fell a full percentage point to 2.6-percent.
