Primary Election Day in Minnesota
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Tuesday is primary election day in Minnesota.
Turn out for the vote is predicted to be fairly low because of a lack of high profile statewide races. In fact, the only statewide race is for a position on the Minnesota Supreme Court where Justice Natalie Hudson is being challenged by Republican endorsed Michelle McDonald and Craig Foss, who is running without a party affiliation.
Voters throughout the First Congressional District will have an opportunity to decide which Republican candidate will appear on the November ballot against incumbent Democrat Tim Walz. Jim Hagedorn and Steve Williams are vying for the Republican ballot slot.
In Rochester, a three-way battle for a seat on the Rochester school board appears on the ballot, but one of the candidates has dropped out of the race. John League announced in late July that he was withdrawing his candidacy for the school board position currently held by Deborah Seelinger, who is still being challenged by Bobbie Gallas.
There is one Rochester City Council race on the ballot. Three candidates are vying for the Sixth Ward seat being vacated by Sandra Means. Nick Carter, Patrick Day and Annalissa Johnson are seeking the position and only the two vote getters will advance to the November election.
The polls open at 7 a.m. and will remain open through 8 p.m.
