Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man who was accused of intentionally ramming his car in a man on a moped has been sentenced to three years on probation.

29-year-old Daniel Lara was also given a stayed one-year prison sentence and was ordered to spend 90 days on electronic home detention for his conviction on a criminal vehicular operation charge. He pleaded guilty to the felony count in December through a plea deal that resulted in the dismissal of a second-degree assault charge.

Lara was arrested last summer after a home surveillance video captured him driving a car that swerved at and struck a man while he was getting off a moped. Court records indicated the victim, who flew onto the roof of Lara's car before landing on a lawn, suffered a concussion along with multiple cuts and abrasions.

The surveillance video also shows Lara speeding across two lawns after the car he was driving struck the victim. The criminal complaint indicates investigators learned the victim was at a party the day before the incident and had reportedly been involved in a confrontation with Lara while holding a gun.
