Free Event Back in Rochester, Minnesota That Is Providing Free Haircuts, Meals, and So Much More

The town of Rochester, Minnesota is known mostly for one thing - Mayo Clinic.  But beyond those marble walls and floors are a lot of people who are struggling.

According to salary.com, residents of Rochester are experiencing price increases of about 1.3%.  In other words, last year, we were paying less.  The increase was mostly due to transportation, food, and housing.  And people are feeling the pinch.  I've heard of moms who are not eating so their kids can.

I just stopped at Kwik Trip the other night to grab bananas, eggs, and milk and thought I was going to find a better deal on eggs at the gas station.  Nope.  Eggs were $5.00 for a dozen.

Affordable housing is an oxymoron for this community.  If you want an apartment that's over $2,000/month, no problem.  Anything less than $1,000/month for at least 3 or 4 people, I know a bunch of people who would love to see it.  But if they have to put first month down and a security deposit, that might not be possible.  And unfortunately, when some of our tents were cleared out at parks, the paperwork for those experiencing homelessness also went into the dumpsters.  Not having a valid I.D. means there is another challenge to find permanent housing.

Lots of challenges for people in our community...and that is just a few that I've heard of from people that call Rochester home.

Thanks to some very generous and compassionate groups and organizations, a day of free help is here...no strings attached.  Food, help getting I.D.'s again, haircuts, and more will be available for our friends in the community that need it.  All you have to do is show up.

If you know someone who needs help right now, please let them know about the free event called Project Community Connect.  Below is everything you need to know about it.

Top 10 Items People in Minnesota Stock Up On When They Hear "Storm"

I am pretty sure that as soon as the word "storm" shows up in the forecast, people in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin are just trained to hop in their cars and go to the store. Stocking up on supplies becomes our #1 priority and we shop like we have absolutely nothing in our house to eat. So, we will up our carts with all "the things" and hope we grabbed enough to make it through the storm.

FYI - we will make it through the storm, and some of us will do that with Double Stuffed Oreos. Some of us will not...because the store shelf was empty by the time we got there.

Below are a few of the top items that we grab at the last minute before the storm hits.
