Dozens of people marched through downtown Rochester on Monday to commemorate the Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday.

The procession made its way from the Government Center to the Mayo Civic Theater, which hosted a celebration of the slain civil rights leader's life following the march. The local observance of the holiday included a rally in the rotunda at City Hall and the annual “We Have a Dream” Breakfast sponsored by the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce at the Double Tree Hotel in Downtown Rochester . Kedrick Adams, the Chief Financial Officer for the Mayo Clinic was be this year's keynote speaker.

The State of Minnesota’s official observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday was held at Macalester College in St. Paul Monday morning.

Governor Mark Dayton joined the keynote speaker, Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Wilhelmina Wright, in celebrating the birthday of the slain civil rights leader. The theme for the event is “Where Do We Go From Here? Reconciliation, Redemption, & Justice for A Beloved Community: a celebration of Dr. King’s life and vision”
