ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (AP) — The family of a 12-year-old boy who drowned in a Minnesota school swimming pool is suing for damages.

Abdullahi Charif was found floating in the pool at St. Louis Park Middle School on Feb. 27. He died a few days later.

The lawsuit contends the school district and the gym teacher supervising Charif's class failed to properly supervise the boy, who was unable to swim.

The Star Tribune (http://strib.mn/1uKJN14 ) reports the family also wants the district to require at least one other qualified educator, swimming coach or lifeguard be present in addition to the person responsible for monitoring students in the pool.

A district spokeswoman says the district is still investigating the drowning and had no comment.

Last month the Hennepin County Attorney's office declined to file charges.
