Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -Yes, it was cold in Rochester Sunday morning - as in record cold.

The temperature at 7:00 AM was -17. That tied the city's record low for March 3rd, set more than 100 years ago in 1913.

And another record will likely be set Sunday as the high temperature may not get above zero. If so, this would not only set a record but go into the weather books as one of Rochester’s coldest March days ever. The city’s record lowest high temperature for March 3rd is 6 degrees. The city’s coldest high temperature for the month is -3, set March 2, 2014. That’s the ONLY subzero high temperature ever recorded in March.

Wind chill readings in SE Minnesota Sunday morning were bitterly cold with most cities reporting minus 30’s. Rochester’s wind chill at 7:00 AM was -40 degrees. Air temperatures across the region were in the minus teens. The cold spot was Owatonna with an overnight low of -20.

It will remain cold all week with below zero temperatures expected through Wednesday morning.
