Rice County Farm Field Remains Identified
A 36-year-old Kenyon man was identified as the remains found in a Northfield Township bean field last week. Rice County Sheriff's Office Investigator Sergeant Nathan Budin reported this morning they believe this may have resolved a cold case.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office determined the identity of the remains belonged to Manuel Ramirez of Kenyon. Sergeant Budin says on October 28, 2019 the Rice County Sheriff's Office received a call reporting a vehicle had crashed in a ditch/ravine near the area where Ramirez's body was found.
No individuals were found inside the vehicle at the time. Deputies and Investigators searched the area, "on different occasions with no success of finding Mr. Ramirez."
Investigators followed up on some other possible leads of the Kenyon man's whereabouts, "both within and outside the jurisdiction of Rice County. None of these leads led investigators to Mr. Ramirez's location."
The cause of death is still under investigation.
You might recall last Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. a farmer planting beans in his field at the curve of Kane Trail and Lamb Avenue found the remains of a body in the grassy area separating the farm field.
At the time the Rice County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that, "foul play isn't suspected."
