Rochester Area Job Growth Rate is Highest Among MN Metro Areas
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - State officials say Minnesota experienced a net gain of just over 17,000 jobs in September and has now regained about 70 percent of the jobs lost during the pandemic shutdown last year.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development today reported the job gains and a slight increase in the state's labor force participation rate resulted in a tenth of a percentage point drop in the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate last month. The 3.7 percent rate is down nearly 2 percentage points from the jobless rate from last September but remains more than a half a point above the rate from September 2019.
For the year, Minnesota has seen a net gain of more than 107,500 jobs for a growth rate of 3.9 percent, which slightly trails the national rate of four percent. The 12-month job growth rate for the Rochester area matched the state rate and was the highest among Minnesota's five major metropolitan areas at 3.9 percent. That translates into a net gain of about 4600 jobs.
