Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester’s commemoration of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday begins with the annual “We Have a Dream” breakfast hosted by the Rochester Diversity Council and the NAACP.

The event begins 7:45 a.m in Exhibit Hall at the Mayo Civic Center, with the program featuring award winning poet, musician, educator and community elder Louis Alemayehu  beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Rochester City Lines is providing free transportation to the event from the Best Buy parking lot in northwest Rochester and Mayo High School in the southeast quadrant of the city. Those buses will be departing for downtown Rochester at 7:30 a.m. Tickets to the event had to be purchased in advance.

The breakfast and program will be followed by Martin Luther King Day activities that are free and open to anyone wishing to participate. A gathering for music will begin at 10 a.m. in the North Lobby of the Mayo Civic Center and will lead up to the annual MLK Day march through downtown Rochester at 10:30. The procession will lead back to the Mayo Civic Center for a commemorative program at 11:30 a.m. in the Civic Theater Lobby.

A birthday party celebrating the life and contributions of the slain civil rights leader will also take place in the Civic Theater Lobby starting at 1 p.m.
