Chalk up yet another honor for Minnesota's Med City when it comes to being a great place to live.

It seems like you can't even turn around these without the city of Rochester being recognized for having one of the best qualities of life or being one of the best places to live. And, sure enough, another national survey has done just that-- it's named our own Rah-Rah-Rochester as the number-one Most Livable Mid-Sized City here in the good 'ol U. S. of A.

This time, the honor comes from the crew over at SmartAsset, which put Rochester smack dab at the top of its list for mid-size city livability. Their survey looked at and ranked 227 mid-size cities based on factors like home values, housing costs, household income, poverty rate, unemployment rate and commute times, along with a few other factors as well. So just what did Rochester do to get that top ranking from SmartAsset?

Rochester, Minnesota has an average commute time of just 16.2 minutes – the fifth-lowest in the study – so you don’t need to worry about adding on an extra few hours to your work day that you’ll have to spend in the car. The city had an unemployment rate of 7.0% in July 2020, the 31st-lowest of the total 227 cities we studied. It also ranked 42nd for its relatively low poverty rate, which comes in at 7.4%.

Rochester was the only Minnesota city to make the list, and while no cities in Wisconsin made the list, both Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, Iowa were included. Other cities coming in behind Rochester on the Top 10 2020 SmartAsset Midsize City Livability list include Olathe and Overland Park, Kansas; Meridian, Idaho; Centennial and Arvada, Colorado; Hillsboro, Oregon; Santa Clara, California; Round Rock, Texas; and Sparks, Nevada.

Now while we know OUR Rochester here in Minnesota is the BEST, did you know there are several OTHER Rochesters out there, too? Keep scrolling to see if you've heard of any of these other cities named Rochester, as well!
