Rochester, MN (KROC-AM NEWS) - The Rochester Public Library has become the first library in the state to be certified as a Service Enterprise organization. The certification from the national Points of Light organization followed a year-long process that included training, developing a volunteer action plan, and other efforts to bolster the library’s volunteer program.

“Being a Service Enterprise organization allows us to have the best process available for engaging community members in our volunteer opportunities,” says Campbell. “Our volunteers provide valuable help to the library each and every year. With our Service Enterprise certification, we are providing the best system to integrate our volunteers into the overall mission of the library.”

Library officials say volunteers donated over 17,300 hours of time to support the library last year. The value of those volunteer hours is estimated at over $477,0000.

Locally, Channel One, NAMI and the Olmsted Medical Center are among the organizations that have also recently received the Points of Light certification
