Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester man accused of murdering his pregnant girlfriend and her young daughter last year has been found competent by an Olmsted County judge.

The judge ordered a competency exam for 31-year-old Renard Carter in August after he filed a motion requesting the withdrawal of his guilty pleas to three counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of 23-year-old Kiona Foote, her unborn child, and her daughter, 2-year-old Miyona Miller. It is unclear when the judge will make a ruling concerning Carter's request.

He entered the guilty pleas in July and had been scheduled to be sentenced in September. It remains in the Olmsted County jail on $5 million bail.

Carter was arrested in South Carolina last year on September 13, the same day Rochester police found the victims murdered in their apartment. He was shot and wounded by a South Carolina law officer when he emerged from a residence holding what turned out to be a BB gun.

Foote and the young child had been strangled. Court records indicate Carter posted videos of him committing one of the murders on social media.
