Rochester MN Named the Most Caring City In USA, Sorry Cleveland
Why Was Rochester Named Most Caring City In USA?
I see it all the time, Rochester, Minnesota, more than anywhere I've lived, has the largest number of caring citizens. Now, it's been backed up by Insurity, who says...
Rochester, Minnesota is the most caring city in the country.
By three times the percentage of awesome residents than anyone else, no less.
But How Did Rochester End Up the Most Caring?
Easy. Mayo Clinic and Olmsted Medical Center. And those two are just the tip of the iceberg.
A full 7.83% of Rochester residents hold jobs that require the most care for others, a share that's 3.2 times larger than the national average.
Insurify looked at more than 4 million car insurance applications to identify the most caring city in every state in 2022.
Fast Facts -
- Across the 648 cities surveyed an average of 2.41% of Americans have a job that requires significant medical or emotional care for others in their community.
- Careers considered in this study: caregiver, counselor, firefighter, hospice volunteer, nurse practitioner, paramedic, physician/medical doctor, teacher, therapist, and social worker.
If Insurify had visited SE Minnesota, they would have seen an entire region dedicated to caring for people. I include the hospitality industry in that, by the way. When people are in town "for The Clinic" they aren't just in medical offices and getting tests, surgery, etc.
They're also out dining, walking around (even in the cold), staying at hotels or one of our many community homes (Gift of Life Transplant House, Hope Lodge, etc).
Each person in each position encounters people in need of care, and offers it either physically, mentally, spiritually, or home-style-y (that's where you just talk to people, hear their stories, you know...being neighborly and giving their brains a chance to be distracted from their medical journey).
So, raise a glass to Rochester, Minnesota, and the communities surrounding Rochester because all of us together earned this honor.
