Everyone knows about ‘Black Friday’, but are you aware of ‘Small Business Saturday’?  It takes place the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  The city of Rochester has officially proclaimed November 29th as ‘Small Business Saturday’.

The proclamation states the importance of small business in our community and the local economy.  It reads, “…according to the United States Small Business Administration, there are currently 23 million small businesses in the US, they represent more than 99 percent of American employer firms…and employ over 55 percent of the working population…”

The proclamation comes just as the Rochester Downtown Alliance prepares for its first official collaboration with the popular national event, which will be held in Downtown Rochester.  Participating downtown businesses will be offering huge holiday sales and promotions on Nov 29 in celebration of the national event.

Activities for the family friendly event will include the city’s tradition of saving Santa from Old City Hall, free trolley rides from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM, and readings by Santa Claus in the Shoppes at University Square at 11:00 am and Noon.
