Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Early voting will begin soon for this fall’s Rochester School District bond issue referendum.

The School Board is set to vote this evening on establishing the location and hours for absentee voting in advance of the November 5th special election. The plans call for using Room 121 at the Edison Building for absentee ballot applications and voting beginning on September 20th. The hours will be Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM through 4:45 PM through November 4th. Absentee voting will also be available on Saturday, November 2nd, from 10:00 AM until 3 PM.

The ballot for the referendum will feature two questions. The first seeks voter approval for the school district to proceed with building a new middle school, elementary school, and rebuilding two existing elementary schools, along with security upgrades district-wide, and upgrades to the existing high school auditoriums at a cost of $171.4 million. The second question, which is contingent on the first question being approved, seeks an additional $9.5 million to add a swimming pool to Century High School and upgrading the existing pool at Mayo High School.

The actual special election on the bond issue referendum will take place on November 5th.
