Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester Public Schools says a section of Century High School was closed to staff and students due to structural concerns caused by heavy snow on the roof.

The area is above the building’s wrestling, weight, and locker rooms. It will remain off-limits until the snow is removed.

RPS spokeswoman Heather Nessler says the weight of the snow was determined to be “borderline to the roof specs in one particular area.” Although no structural issues were found, it was decided to remove the snow as a precaution. The district’s Gage school was closed Thursday so a section of its roof could be checked for any structural issues.

Nessler says engineers at each RPS site have been directed to check for any concerns. She says, “This is a process we will continue until the winter weather subsides. At this time, there are no safety concerns which would prompt an early dismissal at any of our sites.”
