St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota is again tops in the nation for the average score on the ACT college entrance exams.

The ranking covers the 17 states where at least 90-percent of the students took the test. Minnesota's average composite score this year increased a tenth of a point to 21.4 out of a possible 36 points. The nationwide average was down a tenth of a point at 20.7.

Students in the Rochester School District beat both the statewide and national averages but the composite score was down a bit when compared to the past couple years. The district's average composite score this year was 21.8, while it was 22.3 last year and 22.2 in 2017. This year’s score matched 2016 as the lowest for the Rochester School District over the past 5 years. The highest score was reported in 2015 at 24.5.

The company that administers the college entrance exam reported that over 59,000 Minnesota students, or about 95-percent of the high school class of 2019, took the test this year.
