Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - On the heels of the decision to cancel the 2020 Minnesota State Fair, the City of Rochester today announced the suspension of large public events in the city through August 16th.

As was the case in the decision by the State Fair Board, the city cited the ongoing efforts to reduce the spread of the coronavirus for the decision to cancel the large events in city facilities and city grounds. The decision specifically affects the popular Down by the Riverside and "forWard" concert series put on by Rochester Civic Music, the Rochester Downtown Alliance’s Thursday's Downtown weekly festivals, and the Rochester Police Department’s Safe City Nights program.

“This decision was not made without great thought and consideration. We continue to maintain a focus on the health and safety of our community. Teammates will work with local organizations to identifying creative opportunities to create and celebrate our community while we navigate the ongoing impacts of this unprecedented
pandemic,” shares City Administrator Steve Rymer.

The news release announcing the suspension of the events indicates the city continues to monitor public health conditions and will share further updates for events and activities scheduled to occur after August 16th as more information becomes available.
