Moilanen says Gomez was driving north when a southbound car drove through the median and slammed into the driver’s side door of her van.

A passenger in the van was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was identified as 46-year-old Billy Staff of Rochester.

The driver of the vehicle that caused the crash was identified as 20-year-old Deng Kwel of Rochester, who also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Moilanen says the speed limit in that area is 55 mph but it’s not known how fast the vehicles were traveling at the time of the crash. It’s also unknown why his vehicle went through the median. Moilanen says the investigation continues and “criminal charges are possible.”
