It appears Rochesterfest organizers have thrown in the towel on plans to relocate to Central Park.

The plan was approved by the Park Board but ran into opposition from Mayo Clinic officials, Charter House residents and others. Organizers have since taken a long look at Soldiers Field Park and plan to meet with the Park Board Tuesday to review the latest proposal.  It calls for using the portion of the park located north of the swimming pool complex.

Under the plan, a portion of Gibbs Drive would be closed during the weeklong event.  The Park Board would also have to allow alcohol to be sold in the park.

If approved, organizers will meet with the City Council to seek funds for any improvements that may be needed, such as water and electricity.

The event has been held in recent years near the Mayo Civic Center but the upcoming expansion project at that site has forced a relocation.
