Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A major change involving Rochesterfest.

For the first time ever, the event’s popular Grand Parade will be held on a Saturday next year - and earlier in the day.

It has always been held on a Friday evening but it is scheduled Sat. June 24 next year. It will be held in the same area near Soldiers Field Park but it has been moved to the afternoon, not evening. In the past, the parade began at 6 p.m. Next year, it has a scheduled start time of 2 p.m.

Rochesterfest Executive Director Brent Ackerman says the decision to move the parade to Saturday was driven by a number of factors, including dealing with rush hour traffic and parking challenges. It will also allow more time for parade staging and preparation.

Ackerman says, “We’re hoping people come to Rochesterfest before and after the parade to enjoy food and activities at Soldiers Field Park, including the Party in the Park concert.”

It was also announced Tuesday the 2017 Rochesterfest Chair will be Wayne Harvey who has been involved in the event for several years and recently became a board member.
