Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The 2014/2015 meteorological winter ended on the final day of February and the National Weather Service says Rochester's season was colder than normal.

The season's average temperature was 16.4 degrees, which is 2.1 degrees below normal. But it was also nearly twice as warm as the 2013/2014 winter, which had an average temperature of 8.8 degrees.This past winter's average was affected in large part by February's cold weather, which was the 5th coldest on record.

Snowfall this past winter measured 28.8 inches, which is 4.2 inches below normal. The Weather Service report says there was snow on the ground on 80 days or nearly 90 percent this winter.

The 2013/2014 winter was the 4th snowiest on record with a snowfall total of nearly four feet.
