2015 got off to a fairly strong start for Rochester homebuilders. The monthly report on construction activity from the City Building Safety Department shows homebuilders took out 21 permits for new single-family homes last month. That’s almost double the total from last January and is the largest total for the first month of the year in 7 years.

The valuation of the new home permits approved last month was about $5.7 million dollars. Overall, the city issued 140 building permits worth just under $16-million dollars. That valuation total is also about double the total from January of last year.

The largest single permit issued last month was for an addition at St. Mary’s Hospital that was valued at almost $3-million dollars.
