Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - The warm weather that has been experienced in southeast Minnesota since early March is coming to an end.

Rochester’s daily temperatures have been above average since March 3rd.  That run of warm weather included four days with highs in the 60’s. The high on March 8th was 68 and tied a record. Last Friday’s high of 62 missed the record by degree. Saturday’s high was 65 degrees, just two degrees short of the record.

The warm weather has led to the bursting of early spring plants and the disappearance of winter frost. But cold air is headed to the region and is expected to produce temperatures that are more typical for this time of the year.

Meanwhile, residents of southeast Minnesota are also being told to expect some wet weather the next few days.

Based on weather forecasts as of late Tuesday morning, the Rochester area could receive between 1.5 - 2 inches of rain by late Wednesday. The two day total could be close to the amount of precipitation that was recorded between January 1st and March 14th.

The cooler weather is expected to produce a snow/rain mix Thursday and Friday. Totals are going to be on the light side.

That’s not the case in northern Minnesota where a winter storm is expected to hit tomorrow.  It could dump 6 - 12 inches of snow across the Arrowhead region.
