Minneapolis  (KROC AM News) - Sentencing is scheduled in federal court this week involving nine Twin Cities men who were convicted or pleaded guilty of planning to join ISIS in Syria.

Federal investigators say the group of Somali-Americans came up with the plan in 2014 and some were actually able to leave the country before the plot was uncovered.

Six of the men pleaded guilty and the other three went to trial and were convicted.

Some of the men are facing possible prison sentences of 15 - 40 years or in the case of one, a life term.

All the sentencings will be done by US Judge Michael Davis in Minneapolis.

According to federal investigators, several Minnesota men were able to join militant groups in recent years. Some went to Somalia to join the terror group al-Shabab.
