Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has had a couple years knocked off his prison sentence for a brutal assault on a woman he held captive 2 ½ years ago.

43-year-old Eric Narveson was originally given a 17-year prison term for his convictions on 3rd-degree criminal sexual conduct, felony assault, and false imprisonment charges. The sentencing order indicates Narveson was given two sentences of 24 months in prison for the felony assault and false imprisonment convictions that were to be served consecutively with a 15-year sentence for the rape conviction.

A challenge to the sentence was then filed with the Minnesota Court of Appeals, which ordered a new sentencing hearing for Narveson. It took place on Thursday in Olmsted County Court and resulted in a modification which basically combined the pair of 24-month prison terms with the 15-year prison sentence by making them concurrent rather than consecutive.

Narveson was arrested in April 2015 after a woman escaped from a home where he had held her against her will and repeatedly sexually and physically assaulted her over a period lasting nearly 24 hours.

He had previously faced a gross misdemeanor domestic abuse charge involving the same victim.
