New Jersey is trying to pass a law that would ban kids under the age of 12 from playing tackle football. I asked listeners what their thoughts were on this - Is it something that should be a law here? Most said the parents should get the final say, not the government. While I agree this doesn't need to be a law, it does need to be a conversation.

Honestly, even though I love football, after having a kid enter my life, I felt completely different about him playing - it scares the crap out of me. My brothers all played football, I was at every high school football game and I spend Sundays by my TV. Does that make me a hypocrite for being concerned about him playing?

My stepson is 9 years old, and he did play tackle football this year. As one of four co-parents, deciding whether he should or shouldn't play was not completely up to me. We definitely debated it. I'll admit that I was leaning more toward the not letting him play side of things, but I support him 100% and go to every game. I cringe every time he gets hit, but the kid LOVES football. How do you tell him he can't play? Is it better for him to learn the proper way to tackle NOW? The more research I do, the less I like him playing now. That's my opinion... What do you think?

Should football follow what other sports have done? The U.S. Soccer Federation changed their guidelines several years ago after a lawsuit charged them with negligence for not addressing the concussion issue among children. The new guidelines either ban or limit players heading the ball depending on their age. To read more, click here.
