Should We Have a 3-Day Work Week?
Working 8 hours a day (or more) 5 days a week has been the standard since Henry Ford started the idea back in 1926. And now, the second richest man in the world, Carlos "Slim" Helu is suggesting a 3-day work week!
But, there's a catch. You'd have to work an 11-hour day all three days, and you'd be expected to work until you're 70 or 75 to make up for all the lost hours. Still, doesn't the idea of a 4-day weekend sound appealing?
Mr. Helu is worth about $80 billion making him the second-richest person in the world. He has started a "light" version of this idea
at his Mexican telephone company, Telmex, where employees are eligible to retire before 50 years old. If they want to continue working, they can work 4 days a week for full pay.
