Southeastern Minnesota 4th Grader Nearly Killed Getting on School Bus
I have to be real with you - I hate writing these blogs! My heart is pounding out of my chest as I try to type the words that explain how I'm feeling - confused, angry, annoyed. Why? Why is it so difficult for people to stop for school buses?
The Minnesota State Patrol shared this video earlier this morning on their Facebook page. Watch as the bus clearly has its lights flashing and stop signs out, and a car blows through nearly hitting the child!
A friendly reminder from the MN State Patrol:
• Motorists must stop at least 20 feet from a school bus that is displaying red flashing lights or a stop arm when approaching from the rear and from the opposite direction on undivided roads.
• Motorists should slow down, pay attention and anticipate school children and buses, especially in neighborhoods and school zones.
• The best way to be aware of your surroundings at all times is to put the distractions away.
• Drivers can face criminal charges for passing a school bus on the right, passing when a child is outside the bus, or injuring or killing a child.
