St. Olaf Suspends 17 Students After Party Spread COVID

Northfield, MN (KROC-AM News) - A private college in southeastern Minnesota has suspended over a dozen students for participating in an off-campus party that resulted in a number of students becoming infected by COVID-19.

St. Olaf College in Northfield has posted a letter to students from the college's president that indicates 17 students who participated in the party have been suspended for the fall semester. President David Anderson says at least one of the students at the party was infected and spread the virus to several others. He noted that some of those in attendance at the party also exposed other students, including roommates, who now need to quarantine for what he described as reckless behavior.

So far, 8 St. Olaf students have tested positive for COVID-19. Another 50 students are being quarantined.

St. Olaf tested almost 3500 students, faculty, and staff as the campus opened for the fall semester. Just over 3,000 test results have been received and the positive rate is currently less than a third of a percentage point.
