Stewartville Toddler Found In Retention Pond

Stewartville, MN (KROC AM News) - A young Stewartville boy who was found in a pond was in a medically induced coma and in critical care as of Thursday morning.
Olmsted County Sheriff’s Capt. Scott Behrns says the 18-month old was outside his home being watched by a family friend Wednesday afternoon.
The friend said she looked away for just a moment and when she looked back, the boy was gone. She went to the front of the residence to see if he was there. After failing to find him, the woman called the boy’s father who was already on his way home.
They found the toddler in a nearby retention pond and immediately began performing CPR until first responders arrived. Behrns says it’s believed the boy was in the water for about 5 minutes.
Behrns says family members Thursday morning reported the boy appeared to be “doing well” and that his organs were functioning. It’s not known how long he will be in a coma.
Behrns says the lifesaving efforts that were started when the boy was found appeared to have made “a big difference” in the outcome.
The incident happened in the 700 block of Willow Green Ct. NE around 4:00 pm
