Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Two plainclothes Rochester Police Officers happened upon a man wanted on an arrest warrant issued by Minnesota Department of Corrections this morning, which set off a chain of events that led the cordoning off of an area in a southeast Rochester neighborhood.

Police Captain John Sherwin says the man named in the warrant was spotted around 11 a.m. in the 400 block of 6th street southeast. He bolted from the scene on foot and was seen getting into a vehicle that was later spotted near the Kmart Store. There was a brief chase, which was broken off by the officers, but the vehicle was found a short time later along 11 ½ street southeast, prompting police to establish a perimeter in the area just east of South Broadway.

Police found the suspect inside a home in the 1100 block of 3rd avenue southeast after he broke into the residence in an effort to avoid arrest, while the driver of the vehicle was tracked by a K9 officer and was discovered hiding behind a nearby shed.
